The CAJA certification – Communiquer en anglais juridique des affaires (Communicating in Business Legal English, RS6810) attests a legal professional’s ability to communicate with precision, clarity and credibility in legal English, in speech and in writing. It has been registered in the Répertoire Spécifique of France Compétences since November 2024 and is recognised throughout France.

Lawyers (avocats), associates and partners of business law firms; in-house counsel, especially in companies with an international dimension; notaries, judges, law lecturers and other professionals who work in legal English. Also advanced law students (Master’s or equivalent) who want a differentiating skill on their CV.

CEFR level B2 at least, and experience in the legal field is strongly recommended. The 15-minute assessment call exists precisely to check that the programme is right for you — and we tell you frankly if it is too early.

CAJA is a recognised benchmark of legal language competence. It serves as official proof of an operational level of legal English in recruitment, as an internal validation criterion for law firms and legal departments, and as recognised evidence for the Bars and continuing-education bodies.

Yes. The certification issues an official certificate of achievement that can be included in a lawyer’s continuing-education record. The French Bars recognise it as evidence of training activity, in the same way as an approved legal English course.

The training prepares the skills that are assessed: one-to-one coaching with an English-speaking coach who is a former lawyer, plus e-learning. The certification is an official, independent assessment made up of five professional tasks conducted remotely before a three-member jury.

Online — video sessions and platform — over 20 to 50 hours depending on your starting level. The modules cover professional presentation, client communication, drafting and correcting legal documents, and contract negotiation. Every programme is one to one, with the same coach from start to finish.

Five professional assessments: professional presentation (E1), client interview (E2), legal letters (E3), correcting contract clauses (E4), oral negotiation (E5). Each is taken remotely, by video or on a secure platform. The assessment lasts 90 minutes. The jury deliberates, then the official electronic certificate is issued. The details.

Three members: two external assessors, specialists in law and legal English, and a representative of Linguaid, the certifying body. The jury chair, Joss Frimond, guarantees the compliance, fairness and quality of the assessments in accordance with the certification rules.

Several options depending on your level, the number of coaching hours and your funding: the full programme (training + certification) is quoted individually after the assessment call, from €2,000 incl. VAT, CPF-eligible. Exam only (certification without preparation): €500 incl. VAT. The fee includes enrolment, assessment, jury and issue of the electronic certificate.

Yes. CAJA is eligible for the Compte Personnel de Formation; lawyers and self-employed professionals have had access to it since 2018. You can fund all or part of the programme through moncompteformation.gouv.fr, with a flat-rate contribution of €150 payable by you (which your employer or OPCO may cover). The certification is not eligible for FIF-PL funding.

All year round. The calendar adapts to the availability of candidates and trainers.

Successful candidates receive a secure electronic certificate through Procertif. If it is lost, an attestation of achievement or a duplicate is issued by Linguaid on simple written request.

English-speaking coaches, former lawyers, native speakers (United Kingdom, Ireland, United States) who have practised in international firms, legal departments and universities, and who know the French legal system. Several are authors of reference works and teach at Paris II Panthéon-Assas, the ENA, Paris Dauphine or the Union Internationale des Avocats. Meet them.

Each coach is accredited by Linguaid after verification of academic and professional background, assessment of teaching and language skills, and internal training on the CAJA framework and assessment methodology.

Some sit on the jury, but the roles are strictly separated: coaches prepare, assessors judge independently, and the jury chair ensures the impartiality of the process.

No. Conversation classes do not work for lawyers: each has their own files, field and habits. All our work is one to one — role-plays, case simulations, personalised feedback. For a team, we build one programme per person with overall reporting for the manager.

The pass rate is 100% to date, because we do not put anyone forward who is not ready. In the event of failure, a new session is possible; the conditions are set out in the certification rules.
